Board President
Michael Tachvosky, PhD
Dr. Tachovsky is a Type 1 Diabetic and a former camper and staff member of Camp Conrad Chinnock. He now leads a consulting firm specializing in the assessment of economic damages stemming from high-profile disasters and tragedies, which has led to his work as an expert witness in legal matters. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to billions of dollars in claims involving events such as the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, the Lahaina Fire, the Camp Fire, the Woolsey Fire, the East Palestine train derailment, Hurricane Harvey, as well as numerous chemical explosions, oil spills, and crime scenes.
During his youth, Dr. Tachovsky was actively involved in several diabetes-related organizations. After completing his studies and establishing his professional career, he chose to return to Camp Conrad Chinnock to give back, now serving as a dedicated board member.
Medical Director
Dr. Josh May, MD
Dr. Joshua May received his B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from UC Riverside and his M.D. from UCLA, doing his general pediatric residency training as well as a chief resident year at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, before completing his pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He joined Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center in 2007 and has been engaged in various aspects of medical education throughout his career, serving as a mentor for future pediatric endocrinologists, introducing physicians to the field of pediatric endocrinology, and currently the Program Director of the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Pediatric Residency Training Program. He has served as the regional lead of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group pediatric endocrinology group since 201. Dr. May first volunteered at Camp Conrad-Chinnock in 2002 as a pediatric resident and has returned yearly, volunteering for the medical staff to ensure safe camping experiences for children with type 1 diabetes. Over the years, his role has increased, now serving as the Medical Director for Camp Conrad-Chinnock and as a member of the Board of Directors for Diabetes Camping and Educational Services.
Board Treasurer
Gary Wayland, CPA
Gary Wayland received a BS degree in accounting from the University of Southern California and a Masters in taxation from Golden Gate University.
He currently is a partner with Wayland & Vukadinovich, a certified public accounting firm located in Hermosa Beach CA, specializing in tax preparation and representation for individuals and small businesses.
Gary formed MBX Foundation, a tax-exempt entity providing funding for certain athletic and academic programs in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.
Gary is Board Chair for Da Vinci Schools Foundation, the education foundation charged with fundraising and summer program administration for the Da Vinci Schools, a charter school organization located in El Segundo, California.
Gary is Chief Financial Officer, Board member and Treasurer for Diabetes Camping and Educational Services. He joined the board more than twenty years ago as several family members had Type 1 Diabetes.
